“Once in a Lifetime Trek - or maybe Four.”
5 of 5 starsReviewed April 23, 2012
I have been up Kala Pattar 4 times in the past 13 years, for various treks and climbing acclimatizations - and I never get tires of the views. This time, we went again with a local Kathmandu-based company called Ang Rita Trekking, who organizes a wonderful complete trip (in about 13 days) to base camp and Kala Pattar for an amazing price. All of our needs were met, the food and lodging on the trail was as good as it can be, and the weather this spring was spectacularly bi-polar - one minute hot sun, and the next, 4 inches of snow.

I have used this organization three times now, and plan on another trip with them in 2015. The staff that works for them, both in the mountains and in Kathmandu, are honest, honorable, and hard working. There is nothing that they can not accomplish. There are, as you might expect in Nepal, always some unforeseen circumstances that require ingenuity, experience, and a network of local connections - and this is when the Ang Rita staff performs superbly.
The guide staff live in the Khumbu, they know every trail by heart and almost every person by name; the porters are carefully chosen from past experience; the health of the group is always carefully monitored by the guides, modifying the trails and speed as necessary; the porters are treated fairly and loaded within the guidelines.
Shashi and his Kathmandu staff are amazing at how they can customize a trek, organize flights, arrange tours and taxis, and suggest places to eat. I have always had him waiting for me and my group at the airport - no problems ever. He is always very professional, punctual, humble, and has all of the permits, flight tickets, insurance, hotels, transport, porters and guides all in order as requested.
I used a western service for a climbing trip to Nepal in 1999 and will never use one again. I watched my US dollars leave Nepal with wealthy organizers instead of staying with the local people. I will only use Ang Rita's services for trekking and climbing in Nepal. I cannot imagine anyone working harder to gain your trust and to ensure your visit to Nepal will be spectacular.

Great trekking company. 2 trips with Ang Rita Trek to EBC, Goyko Ri and Island Peak. Well organized. Excellent communications. Lodges, food, tents, guides and porters, all carefully arranged. Made me confident I didn’t have to pay an American intermediary, but could book directly with them in Kathmandu. Saved me money and offered direct contact with the local Nepali’s and Sherpa’s themselves. Trustworthy. Friendly. Shashi Dhar, their man in Kathmandu studied in the US, speaks excellent English. Would climb with them again for sure.

My wife and I have climbed twice with Ang Rita Trek and Expedition. On both occasions we were able to customise our trip to take into account my (slow) acclimatisation speed and were very impressed by the detail and helpfulness of the suggestions that were emailed back to us during the planning of our trips. Once on the ground we enjoyed exemplary support and camaraderie from the team and really bonded well with everyone.
We have found ART’s prices to be well worth the service received and something else…even when events happen that are beyond our control – bad weather and backlog at Lukla for instance, the ART staff seem to smooth the way. (We heard this from other climbers and trekkers too). If you are looking for a customised trip in the Himalayas that will meet your requirements, I strongly recommend that you give ART a try.

We have taken two treks with Ang Rita on two separate years, and both trips met and exceeded our expectations. The first trip was also a climbing trip. We trekked to Tashi Lapsa pass, then climbed Mt. Parcharmo from the pass. Ang Rita handled all of the logistics: food, yaks, lodging, camping, cooking, guiding and fun companionship as well.
Our second trip was a trek to Kala Patar, then a scramble climb up Mt. Pokalde. We camped for two nights on this trip. Again, we were really happy with Ang Rita. Besides handling the routine items very nicely, when things went a bit wrong, they stepped up and handled problems very well (one member got a bit of altitude sickness and so they got him down right away to a lower village, and once when weather threatened to close Lukla airport, they still got us on a flight so we got back to Kathmandu in time). I am pleased to give references to Ang Rita Trek & Expedition.

I have used Ang Rita Trek & Travel on and off now for around 10 years for group and private tours and have found them to excel in all matters of organisation and communication with all facets of our travels, pre and post arrival to Nepal. I have always found Shashi ( Manager) to be incredibly helpful and very organised in all preparation of our trips and always goes completely out of his way to make sure our trips are a great adventure and hassel free.
I can now say that Shashi has become a good friend due to our long years of association and would recommend to anyone to use Ang Rita Trek & Travel for all travels to Nepal.

Angrita Trek organized a fully supported trek into Mustang for ourselves and 8 friends from California and the whole experience was flawless and wonderful. Our guide, Nawang, and his crew of about 10 Sherpas were attuned to all our needs and made the 17 day trek an extremely memorable experience .
Upon our return to Katmandu we all went different directions; Angrita took care of everyone's transfers and transport to other parts of Nepal and separately organized a trek for just the 2 of us towards Everest Base Camp in Kumbu. We can recommend Angrita without reservation and should we do another trek in Nepal we would absolutely use Angrita Trek.

'I have had many climbing expeditions to Nepal using various companies for planning and logistics. I was impressed by Ang Rita Trek and Expedition from the first time I communicated with them via email and telephone. The company continually kept me up to date with the progress of the expedition planning by a constant exchange of emails and telephone calls.
On arrival in Kathmandu, the planning was seamless - everything had been completed as I had requested. Their friendly and professional nature made doing business with them a pleasure.
On the trail to Baruntse, our team (including Nepalese Staff) were well cared for with ample food and breaks to make the journey of everyone so much better.
If I could describe Ang Rita Trekking in a couple of words - Professional and Fun.'

"I have been to Nepal on four separate expeditions. On the last two expeditions my company has used Ang Rita Trekking. I love working with Shashi and Mingma, both before we leave, and once we are on the ground in Nepal. They are good listeners and compliment each other. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a logistics provider who is both friendly and professional."

I contracted with Ang Rita Trekking to guide myself and three of my grown children up the spectacular 19,031 ft. Pokalde Peak, east of Everest. From the comforting greeting and pick up at the chaotic Katmandu airport, to the return there 2 weeks later, this was about the most rewarding experience in my 50+ years of climbing, over 300 summits, and 7 similar guided expedition climbs.
The guides got us all to the summit (and 2 of us had never climbed high before) in a joyous mood. Their kind and cheerful care to both our physical and mental needs throughout the trek in, (and another climb) made the trip a "peak experience" in all of our lives. We really felt like we were a part of a single team of Americans and Nepalese, and not just a group of clients and guides.
