Chomolhari Trek
Bhutan, isolated from the rest of the world for centuries is
a remote Himalayan kingdom. Bhutan has retained much of its
fascinating culture untouched by modern civilization. The
country has some of the highest mountain ranges on earth and
over seventy percentage of the land surface is forested
which justifies Bhutan a land of nature’s paradise. Bhutan
prides for stunning mountain scenery; incredible geographic
and ecological diversity with tropical rainforest along the
country’s southern border and forests of oak, rhododendron
and conifer on the northern slopes. Commencing at Drukgyel
Dzong, Paro the trek passes through scattered villages and
farmland into deep and richly forested valleys which leads
to a high alpine pastureland. The trek offers magnificent
mountain scenery while crossing high passes and great
variety of Bhutanese landscape. The best season for this
trek is from April to June and September to November.

ITINERARY
Day 1: Arrive Paro and transfer to hotel. Visit Paro
market and the town. Overnight at the hotel in Paro.
Day 2: Paro sightseeing, visit Ta Dzong, built in 17th
century as a watch tower for Paro Dzong but now a National
Museum filled with antique thangkha paintings, textiles
weapons and armour, Rinpung Dzong, built in 17th century to
defend valley against Tibetan invaders which now serves an
administrative centre and home of monastic community.
Afternoon drive to Drukgyel Dzong, situated at the end of
Paro valley and built by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal to
commemorate his victory over Tibetan invaders. Kyichu
Lhakhang, the oldest monastery of the Kingdom is another
place of interest. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 3: Commence the trek from Drukgyel Dzong at 2580m
passing through farm land, forests, valleys and arrive at
Sharma Zampa for camping.
Day 4 : The trek follows Pa Chu (Paro River), ascending and
descending through pine, oak and spruce forests. Further
following up the river, arrive at the campsite ( 3750m. ).
Day 5 : The trail follows the river above the tree line and
offers the spectacular views of the surrounding peaks. A
short walk into the valley will take to the camp at Jangothang at an altitude of 4,040m. from where the view of
Mount. Chomolhari and Jichu Drake is magnificent.
Day 6 : Gradually climbing up leads to the first ridge with spledind view of Chomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tsrim Khang and
then crossing over Nyele la pass at an altitude of 4,700m.
reaches at Lingshi ( 4000m. ) for camping.
Day 7 : The trek route climbs towards a small white chorten
and then to Mo Chu Valley. Steep climbing takes to Yeli La (
4820m. ) which offers the panoramic view of Chomolhari,
Ganghhenta, Tserim Khang and Masang Gang. Arrive at Shodu
(4,100m) for the camping.
Day 8 : The path follows Thimphu river, descending through
rhododendron, juniper and other alpine forests with
magnificent views of the cliff facing rocks and
waterfalls.The trail gradually ascends to the ruins of
Barshong Dzong, reaching the camp at the altitude of 3,600m.
Day 9 : The trail descends gently through a dense forest of
rhododendron, birch and conifers, then drops steeply to Thimphu Chu and then to Dolam Kencho ( 3600m. ) for camping.
Day 10 : The trail goes in and out side valleys above Thimphu Chu, making a long ascent through a forest of
conifers and high altitude broadleaf species to Dodena to
drive to Thimphu. Overnight hotel in Thimphu.
Day 11 : Full day of sight seeing in Thimphu valley visiting
Memorial Chorten, Tashichhodzong, National Library, Painting
School, Traditional Medicine Institute, Handicrafts
Emporium. Evening drive to Paro. Overnight hotel in Paro.
Day 12 : Drive to Paro airport for international departure.
